Good Note/ Bad Note
So I’ll be accepting the job offer from my Wednesday interview! Pretty exciting :). I was the most hopeful for this job and the teacher package is sweet. The start date is going to be sept 15th which is perfect for me because I also was invited by a dance company to do a paid performance early September! Yay for 3 jobs! The world is on my side :D
Bad Note: I just went to my Saturday interview and right when the woman saw me, she began speaking to me in Chinese. I told her I was Janice and she went, “Oh”. From that point on, the rest of the interview went as expected. She wrote down ABC on my CV then stared at it blankly as she tried to figure out how to let me down nicely in her thick Chinese accent.
“To tell the truth, the students only know about looks. You do not look like foreigner. You cannot be foreign teacher because you look… yea, you know?”
No. I don’t know. You want me to believe the reason image matters is because the students care about how their teacher looks? Hmm. Or that you want to raise future generations to believe that in order to speak and learn perfect English, you have to look and act just as Caucasians do. Look lady, I’m from America. Born and raised. Thanks for wasting my time. Not only that, she further wasted my time by trying to persuade me into working as a Chinese employee instead, saying that the lowest pay I was willing to accept was way too high for.. pretty much someone of Chinese decent.
Dear foolish woman, no thank you.
